TAKE THAT!

SUMMERTIME BALL 26

For Take That’s Summertime Ball performance at Wembley, I created the visual content for “Shine” under the creative direction of Luke Halls Studio.

I designed and animated a fully 3D Art Deco-inspired environment, custom-built for the stage and developed through Blender, Substance Painter, Notch, and After Effects. The scene included animated architectural elements, lighting passes, particle effects, and a workflow designed to optimise render times while keeping the content flexible for production.

This was my first time working on a Wembley Stadium show, and it was both a challenge and a project I am proud of.

Under the creative direction of Luke Halls Studio, I was given the responsibility of delivering the visual content for “Shine” for Take That’s Summertime Ball performance. The track had a fast turnaround and required a highly detailed, fully 3D environment built specifically for the Summertime Ball stage.

I created a hyper-realistic Art Deco-inspired scene, beginning with a custom 3D model built in Blender and then textured in Substance Painter. The building was designed with a full interior, allowing for animated elements such as opening doors, moving staircases, chandeliers, and lighting details. The aim was to make the structure feel almost like a musical box, gradually coming to life throughout the track.

To optimise the process, I developed a Notch workflow for the building, helping reduce render times while maintaining visual quality. I also created an early previs and working file using a Notch and After Effects workflow, allowing freelance artists to work in After Effects while still benefiting from the rendering power of Notch.

Many of the animated and VFX elements, including the staircases, particle effects, and lighting passes, were created in Notch. It was a technically demanding track with a tight deadline, but the final result felt rich, polished, and full of movement.
